UNIONTOWN, Ohio--As reported by Mike Popovich from the Canton Repository, Alicia Manning, the head coach of the Green High School girls basketball team, has chosen to resign immediately, stating her desire to return to her home state of Georgia.
She spent six seasons as Green's head coach, with previous stints at Northwest High School, where she spent four of the 10 seasons coaching high school basketball in the Stark County area.
Feeling the absence of her parents and the lack of time spent with them over the holidays burdened her, leading to a difficult choice to return home.
"It just has been really weighing on me. For the last two years, it's like, dang, it's getting harder not spending holidays there and missing birthdays," Manning said to the Canton Rep.
As of press time, the school board had not yet taken any action to determine the next candidate to head the girls' program, with the upcoming school board meeting scheduled for June 30.
