CVCA head boys basketball coach Matt Futch resigns

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio - A new head boys basketball coach will be appointed at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, as Matt Futch, the current head boys basketball coach, has stepped down, as reported by the Akron Beacon Journal. 

He presented his resignation letter to the Athletic Director of the school, Jon Young, on August 18.

Futch had an overall record of 84 wins and 36 losses after five seasons, having secured four league championships during his tenure. 

"After much prayer and reflection, I have made the difficult decision to resign from my position as head boys basketball coach at CVCA, effective August 18, 2025," Futch wrote in his resignation letter.

"It has been an incredible honor to serve this program over the past five years," he also wrote. Beyond wins and achievements, what I have valued most has been the opportunity to mentor and guide these young men, helping them grow not only as athletes but also in their personal faith and character."

The 2002 Buchtel High School graduate had the privilege of coaching some top prospects during his eight years as a head coach, five at CVCA and three at Akron Buchtel. 

Chris Livingston was one of his athletes who excelled on the court at Buchtel before committing to the University of Kentucky, and is currently playing in the NBA. Darren Peterson, who was recognized as a national player of the year. played during his freshman and sophomore years at CVCA. He is currently playing at the University of Kansas following a brief period at Prolific Prep.

He played at the University of Akron and has professional basketball on his resume.

At the time of publication, there was no indication regarding the replacement or appointment of his successor.
