UNIONTOWN, Ohio - Justin Landes of Lake sustained a significant injury during a game against North Canton on Friday evening. The injury took place in the third quarter, after which he received on-field medical attention and was subsequently transported to Akron Children's Hospital for further evaluation.
According to a press release from Lake Athletic Director Brock Cline, Landes "suffered a laceration of the right kidney" and some internal bleeding. He underwent surgery to repair the laceration. Upon discovery during the surgery, it was discovered that he had an additional laceration.
He remains hospitalized, as indicated in the press release, and is in stable condition while his medical team determines the optimal course of action for the additional laceration.

The Lake Athletic Department would like to thank the Uniontown Fire Department (who transported Justin to ACH), Dr. Mark Hudak of Cleveland Clinic-Mercy Hospital Sports Medicine, athletic trainers Hayley Simmons (Hoover), Haley Kiko (Hoover), Mariah Reeder (Lake), and Erica Allen (Lake) for their timely evaluation of Justin during the game.
Initially, certain media outlets reported that Landes had sustained a lacerated spleen during the early stages of the information dissemination. However, as the day progressed, this information was amended based on reports from individuals who were close to the situation.
