BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The UFL will be missing one team, as the Birmingham Stallions have chosen to halt their operations, as stated in the Stallions' press release.
In the release, UFL co-owner Mike Repole stated the move came from the venue size of Protective Stadium, in downtown Birmingham, which seats just over 40,000. It is part of the UFL strategic market realignment and long-term growth strategy.
"With Birmingham, this decision was 100% due to the wrong-sized venue," said Repole. "I appreciate the passion of the fans and respect the history of the Birmingham Stallions."
The league currently comprises seven teams, with Oklahoma City set to launch a franchise in 2028, as reported by the UFL.
Repole went on to say, "Departing is never easy, and this decision is not a reflection of the decision shown by players, coaches, fans, local partners, or civic leaders in Birmingham."
No information has been provided regarding the next steps for players and personnel who are currently unemployed.
