GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Trinity High School is set to welcome a new head coach for the boys basketball team, as the school has announced that Frankie Hughes will take charge starting in the 2026-2027 basketball season, according to the school's press release.
Hughes hails from Cleveland, Ohio, and played and graduated from Garfield Heights High School in 2016. During his time there, he guided the Bulldogs to two consecutive Ohio Final Four appearances, scored over 1,000 points, and ranked among the top 100 high school players in the country.
He went on to play at the collegiate level for multiple universities, beginning at Missouri, where he played in 30 games, starting 11, then transferring to Duquesne during the 2018-2019 season, where he perhaps had his best season, playing in 32 and starting 22, with season averages of 8.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Ultimately, he finished his Division I playing career at the University of San Diego, where he played in just 12 games, starting seven, and averaged 6.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. His last stop would be at Division II Slippery Rock University, located in the northern borough of Butler County, as a graduate student.

He signed to Louisville in November of 2015 but agreed to mutually part ways in 2016 and reopen his recruitment.
Following college, he played pro ball overseas for Satria Muda, a club in Indonesia, before transitioning into coaching.
"His coaching philosophy is built on discipline, accountability, relationships, and relentless effort," the school administration said in the press release.
Frankie Hughes' return to Garfield Heights marks an exciting new chapter as he takes on the head coaching role at Trinity High School, bringing his experience and passion for the game back to the community.
