Elder's Andrew Lyman ruled ineligible for remainder of season

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Ohio High School Athletic Association has ruled that Cincinnati Elder star receiver Andrew Lyman will be ineligible for the remainder of the 2026 season. 

According to WLWT 5, Lyman did not meet one of the 12 exceptions outlined by the OHSAA transfer bylaw; his exception was a transfer consequence rule under bylaw 4-7-2. 

Lyman transferred from Kings Mills in Warren County, OH, this season and played through Week 5 of the season. According to OHSAA transfer rules. Players who transfer become ineligible after 50 percent of the season if they participated in that sport over the last 12 months.  

According to the report, both Lyman and Elder athletic director Kevin Espelage appealed to the OHSAA but was denied. 

When a student-athlete in Ohio is declared ineligible, families typically pursue legal remedies by submitting a temporary injunction or preliminary injunction request to the county common pleas court that has jurisdiction over the school district.

Elder is currently 5-0 this season.
