AKRON, Ohio--Ellet Community Learning Center is set to welcome a new head football coach for the 2025 season. Robert 'Bob' Sax has been appointed to guide the Orangemen, with board approval on Feb. 24, as reported by Michael Beaven of the Akron Beacon Journal.

Sax served as the head football coach within the Akron Public School system, guiding Akron Garfield from 2002 until 2016. He serves as an educator in the district. As of this past school year, he is listed as a math teacher at the school, according to the district website.

Also, recently served on Dan DeGeorge's football staff at Uniontown Lake High School for the last 8 seasons.

"I still look at this as a challenge, and I still had the little itch," said Sax. "I am excited. I looked at a lot of the kids that were there at Ellet. I have got some really good-looking young football players that are going to be sophomores and juniors, and a couple of seniors in there that are sticking around."

Sax is well acquainted with the Akron area in terms of coaching and education, having graduated from Garfield in 1988 and having taught at Garfield for 24 years and Kenmore-Garfield for two years, adding six at Ellet.

He served as an assistant coach at Garfield during Antione Winfield's time there, and later became head coach for both Whitney Mercilus and Chris 'Beanie' Wells; all three would go on to play in the NFL.

He is set to inherit the program from John Daraio, who has served as the coach for the past two seasons and has departed to take on the role of head coach at Woodridge High School.
