CANTON, Ohio - The OHSAA has announced that girls' flag football will be officially sanctioned for the upcoming 2026 season, following a press conference that took place during the NFL Flag Championships at the Hall of Fame Village.

The announcement was made following a news conference attended by representatives from the OHSAA, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, according to Mike Dyer of WCPO Cincinnati.

In 2024, the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association added girls flag football to its membership and will be a spring sport.

"We are pleased that the OHSAA Board of Directors has approved girls flag football as a sponsored sport with a championship event," Doug Ute said.

Dates for the competition and the 2026 state tournament will be determined in the near future.
