LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - The stars were shining as circuit teams entered the arena for the NE2K National Championship, which took place at the Kentucky Expo Center in a tournament reminiscent of March Madness.
Following an exhausting weekend of competitions, the Trendsetters Basketball Academy emerged undefeated in the 17U Class of 2026 bracket. Eventually, taking home the championship trophy.

On the initial day of competitions, they would cruise by G Nation Suns 17U White team with a score of 62-19, and conclude the evening with a challenging 49-40 win over TNBA Cleveland East - Select.
On Sunday, the Elite-8 segment of the tournament took place, where the Trendsetters faced off against Huntsman Elite, emerging victorious with a score of 68-48. This win would advance them to the final four, where they narrowly defeated TSP by a margin of three points, securing their place in the championship game with a 66-63 victory.
On championship Monday, they were crowned national champions after achieving a six-point victory against Georgia Queen Elite Black, with a final score of 62-56.
This weekend not only clinched them a title but also gave them bragging rights in northeast Ohio, at least until the following year, as this team will graduate upon entering their senior year of high school.

"We have bragging rights for 12 months," said Bryan Mickens, head coach and founder of Trendsetters Basketball Academy. "It was basically March Madness, and we came out champions."
With significant contributions from Mya Taylor (Canton McKinley), K'Lynn Carter (Canton McKinley), and Zoe McCort (North Canton), who demonstrates exceptional skills in track and field, along with out-of-state player Tia Yellock from Rochester, PA, as well as Dakota Graham (Norton), and other key role players, they successfully concluded the summer with a championship title.
