OHIO - Beginning on September 8, Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel will launch his 'Team Tressel Fitness Challenge' targeted at students in grades 4-6 throughout the state of Ohio, as reported by 10TV WBNS Columbus.

The initiative will concentrate on developing routines related to fitness, nutrition, and sleep. Over 160,000 students from 635 schools have chosen to participate in the challenge.

"We created this challenge so it's truly for everyone, from the super athlete to the student who needs an adaptive exercise, from the very active to the less active and everything in between," Tressel said to 10TV. "We want kids to be excited about living a healthy life."

Students will advance through three tiers: bronze, silver, and gold, by establishing personal objectives in each of the three key areas: fitness, nutrition, and sleep. The 90-day Challenge mandates that participants adhere to their goals for 60 of those days.

At each stage, students will reflect on their progress.

Former Cleveland Glenville and NFL athlete Ted Ginn Jr. will take on the role of challenge captain, joining Tressel throughout Ohio. "If we can get a kid, we can get a family, and that can create a greater impact across the state," Ginn said.

Each individual school will have a Challenge Coordinator to oversee participation and report final results to the Department of Education and Workforce. As the course is completed, each student will receive an achievement certificate.
