BARBERTON, Ohio - The Barberton Magics football team has canceled its game scheduled for October 3 against the Highland Hornets due to injuries to most of its starting players.

According to the Highland Local School District's Facebook page, they received information from Athletic Director John Sabol of the Magics that ten of their starting players are currently injured.

Furthermore, efforts to maintain this event for their [Highland] students and community led them to meet with Barberton's leadership team at approximately 12:00 p.m. to explore potential options for proceeding with the game.

Also in attendance for the meeting was the commissioner of the Suburban League and the head official for the game.

Those meetings were to establish a modified game plan that included: limited playing time for their [Highland] starters, using abbreviated quarters, and implementing a running clock, among other adjustments. According to the Facebook post, Barberton agreed to the modified game plan.

A short time later, they started seeing social media posts and various media outlets that the game was indeed canceled.

This was heartbreaking for Highland because it was their homecoming game and the Alumni Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

As stated in the Facebook post, Highland is exploring other options.

At the time of publication, Ohsfbmedia had sent an email to the Barberton Athletics Director, but had not received a response.
