Doran Grant out, Gary Shadie named Interim coach at St. Vincent-St. Mary

AKRON, Ohio - With the regular season of high school football finished, some schools are making coaching changes. St. Vincent-St. Mary has decided to move on from Doran Grant, as reported by the Akron Beacon Journal. 

Grant, who starred at St. Vincent-St. Mary between the years between 2007 and 2010, eventually graduated in 2011. He was a four-year letter winner, where he played wide receiver, defensive back under then head coach Dan Boarman.

Following high school, he committed to the Buckeyes of Ohio State, where he played four years, and he became team captain, All-Big Ten honorable mention, and first team. He was also a member of the 2014 national championship team. 

Eventually, moving on to the NFL from 2015 to 2018.

In two seasons with the Irish, he compiled a record of 1-18. Below is the statement released by the school:

St. Vincent-St. Mary High School has decided to transition to new leadership in our football program. We sincerely thank Doran Grant VM11 for his dedication and service to our student-athletes over the past two years, and for the enthusiasm and commitment he brought to restore the proud history and tradition of the STVM football legacy.

 According to the school press release, to ensure a smooth transition, St. Vincent-St. Mary has formed a search committee and will begin a national search for the next head football coach. 

During this process, Gary Shadie will serve as the Interim Head Coach, who has been on the staff for 12 years and serves as the Dean of Student Accountability and Safety. 

As of press time, there was no response from Mr. Grant.
