PLAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio- GlenOak High School will be without long-tenured head football coach Scott Garcia, as he announced his retirement after 17 seasons in a prepared statement.
"I will be retiring as Head Football Coach at GlenOak High School. I have been honored to lead the Glenoak program the past 17 years and look forward to many new challenges and adventures in the future," Garcia said in a prepared statement.
He departs from the program holding the record for the highest number of wins in school history, totaling 93, alongside numerous other achievements and accolades earned throughout his tenure.
Garcia was hired in 2007 and stayed until 2018, where he had 76 wins and 56 losses, but led the team to eight playoff appearances and four Federal League championships.
He returned to the program following a two-year break, succeeding Beau Balderson, who was then hired at Jackson High School.
He achieved greater success during his first tenure compared to his second. He relished every moment, "My first tenure was much more successful than the last, but I believe our kids fought and learned as many lessons as all of our best teams did," said Garcia.
Under his tenure, he has coached some accomplished players, including Mark Murphy, Brian Hartline, Dustin Fox, and Derek Fox, and helped develop players such as Bri'onte Dunn, Brennon Tibbs, and Jason Simon (who has coached on his coaching staff), among others.
"I am proud of the things we were able to accomplish along the way, from many big wins to the addition of several athletic facility upgrades that the kids in Plain Local will be able to use for decades to come. I am always here for any of our players and look forward to seeing all the successes they have in life," he stated.
To date, he was the longest tenured head coach in the Federal League and had been coaching for 35 years, "Lastly, I want to thank my wife, Crystel, for the unwavering support and countless hours of sacrifice on our family over the past 35 years."
As of press time, there had been no official announcement of his replacement.
