WELLSVILLE, Ohio - The Tigers will have a new head football coach as the Wellsville School District has recommended the hiring of 1995 graduate Shawn Carter, according to their social media post.
Carter takes over a familiar program after Jim Tsilimos stepped down after going 0-10 in just one season at the helm. He was the Offensive Coordinator under Tsilimos.
In a press release, Tsilimos stated he has "run out of gas and is unable to make the significant time commitment necessary to continue building and improving the football program at this stage."
That makes room for Carter, the school's all-time leader in passing yards (3,765) and career touchdown passes (43), to lead the program, among other records.
He has coached under a staple of good head coaches in his career, such as Derrick Spann and Moose Ramsey, serving as assistant coach and offensive coordinator.
The Wellsville BOE will vote to approve Carter at their Monday, February 23 meeting.
