AKRON, Ohio - A 30-point mercy rule would be used on the opening day of girls flag football. Tallmadge dominates for a first-week win over Field.
Tallmadge quarterback Sophia Worthington had much success in her opening day of play, throwing for five touchdowns.
They made quick work of Mogadore Field, scoring on five of six possessions as Rae Pooler was the top target for Worthington, catching seven receptions.
"Inaugural win for the girls, I'm proud of them and really excited for the school, everyone backs us a ton, the sport we have is awesome," said Riley, when asked about his opening day victory.
Pooler also recorded one interception as they were up 18-0 and caught her one and only touchdown to take the score up 24-0. CoCo Pooler also contributed two touchdowns and an interception for the Blue Devils.
They take pride in their defense. "Definitely our defense, our man-to-man, that's definitely something that we've been working on a lot," said Rae Pooler.
That defense pitched a shutout as they head into the weekend with an opening season win as they prepare to face a high-octane Canton McKinley Bulldogs on March 22 at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
