AKRON, Ohio -- The face of Ellet football for decades, Joe Yost died Thursday, August 13, according to his brother's Facebook post:
"It is with heavy hearts (Jim, Gary, Randy, and Bobby) to inform you that we loss our brother Joe this morning. He has been dealing with dementia for the last two and a half years. Joe was trying all the time; the last 30 days have been very hard. We want to thank all the friends of the family for being there. More information to follow. Thank you for the support," -- James Yost Facebook Post.
Yost earned a record of 234 wins and 152 losses over 38 seasons while coaching the Orangemen before retiring in 2017.
He holds the record for the most career wins by a football coach in Akron Public Schools. Additionally, he was an educator in the Akron Public Schools for 36 years, as reported by the Akron Beacon Journal.
He obtained both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Akron following his graduation from Ellet in 1971.
