ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- This year, the Lutheran West varsity football team will welcome a new member. Addyson Esposito is set to join the Longhorns this season, making history as the program's first female varsity football player.
She truly understands what this means for women in sports: "Being the first to do something truly means a lot to me because football is often seen as a 'boys' sport," said Esposito. "As a girl, I want to prove that it isn't always about being the same size, height, or weight as everyone else."
Esposito is an athlete who participates in multiple sports, including soccer, basketball, and flag football. She is in the class of 2028 and will be the kicker. "I hope that, being one of the first, I can inspire other girls to step out of their comfort zones and realize that they can play football too!" she elaborated.
Lutheran West opens up the 2026 football season on the road against Elyria Catholic on Friday, August 21.
