NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio — Manchester took advantage of the light rain in the first half of play to edge out Orrville in a much-needed conference win to stay alive in the playoff hunt, winning 19-14.

“Physically, we wanted to get after them in the beginning,” said Coach Stacy. “We just felt like it was some things on film that we saw and wanted to take advantage of before the rain really started to get down.”

After Manchester settled down in the first half from a fumble, then capitalizing on an Orrville interception that led to Phil Partin getting into the endzone as he carried the load on the drive.

After the Panther defense made two straight stops led by senior Blaze Johnson that forced Orrville to stay in their own territory, the Panthers got another chance to score. Senior running back Lorenzo Donatelli found the end zone for a touchdown, but the team couldn't convert the extra point after the score.

Mistakes again plagued both teams after a mishandled punt by Manchester that set Orrville up at the 9-yard line; Mark Larson would score on a quarterback keeper that caught the Panther defense off guard.

After some big completions by freshman quarterback Greyson Swaino, they would direct snap the ball to Partin, and he would rush 44 yards for the Panthers' final touchdown of the game.

Partin rushed for over 100+ yards in the first half and made a key interception. “I seen the outside receiver sit down a little bit, I came up and seen him on the seam wide open, because that’s my zone too, and I just made a play on the ball,” said Partin.

To start the second half, the rain would pick up, and it would be a tale of two halves. “They came out and looked like a different team in the second half,” said Stacy.

Orrville started to move the ball more consistently in the air as quarterback Mark Larson would target Abran Perez and Tyson Woodruff and owned possession time. He eventually found Woodruff up the seam, setting them up at the 9-yard line, and a quick shovel pass to Perez for the touchdown made it a game.

While the Partin-Donatelli combo remained productive between the 30s, Partin appeared to cross into the end zone late in the contest on what the Panthers' supporters believed was a touchdown on 4th and 1. However, the official ruled him down at the half-yard line, resulting in a turnover on downs.

Orrville had one last chance but would turn it over on downs after failing to convert a 4th and 10 with just over one minute remaining.

That would end Orrville's hopes of completing the comeback.
