Lawsuit emerges in Massillon involving prior incident coined 'birthday shots'

MASSILLON, Ohio - According to a Channel 19 News in Cleveland report, a lawsuit has been filed on behalf of the football player and his family concerning an event referred to as a 'birthday shots celebration' that may have overstepped its limits. The lawsuit has been directed against Massillon City School District, the Head Football Coach, the Board of Education, the Superintendent, and the principal of the high school. 

According to court documents obtained by Channel 19 News, the incident occurred on the football player's birthday, on or about June 26, 2023, involving approximately 15 players. 

The incident included kicking, punching, tackling, smacking, pinching, and other forms of physical contact during this type of celebration.

The mediation phase of the filing is set for October 29, 2024, with a trial date set for February 2, 2026. The incident was when the player was 17 years old, who has now turned 18, and who is represented by Akron attorney Edward Gilbert.
