Multiple media outlets report that another high-profile coach is leaving to join a rival program. Kentucky's Vince Marrow has taken the general manager job at the University of Louisville.

Marrow, who serves as the associate head coach for Kentucky, was heavily involved in recruiting within the Ohio area and was undoubtedly Mark Stoops' right-hand man, as their connection dates back to their time as teammates at Youngstown Cardinal Mooney.

In September 2024, he entered into a contract worth $1.3 million for a 3-year extension, which would provide him with that amount each year, having been part of the Kentucky coaching staff since 2012, according to 247Sports

Ohio connections

His recruiting profile from Ohio features players from recent years, including Lynn Bowden Jr. (Warren Harding), Brian Robinson (Westerville North), who previously played for Youngstown Austintown-Fitch, Darian Kinnard (St. Ignatius), Mike Edwards (Cincinnati Winton Woods), Benny Snell Jr. (Westerville Central), along with a comprehensive list of his all-time top recruits available here, producing four first round NFL Draft picks from Ohio.

Many are questioning whether this unexpected decision is a result of the diminishing recruitment of high school athletes attributed to the transfer portal, or if it was simply time for Marrow to pursue a more significant opportunity.

Additionally, the highly competitive SEC Conference, now comprising 16 teams, certainly adds an intriguing layer to the reasons behind his departure without any clarification.

With just two months before the season starts, these will be interesting moves for the Kentucky Wildcats.
