CLEVELAND, Ohio - St. Ignatius head football coach Ryan Franzinger has resigned after three seasons, according to a press release from the school.
Franzinger took over a storied program after the retirement of long-time coach Chuck Kyle in 2022, who had a 40-year career posting an overall record of 353-90-1 and 11 state championships.
Saint Ignatius expressed this in a formal statement:
The school expresses its sincerest gratitude to Coach Franzinger, who will remain on staff as a Theology teacher, for his dedication and service to the football program and for his unwavering commitment to the school's mission
He played for St. Ignatius under Kyle, capturing two OHSAA state football championships in 1999 and 2001. Ultimately, after playing, he joined the staff as an assistant, eventually working his way up to Co-Defensive Coordinator, then Defensive Coordinator, and went on to win another state title in 2011.
He was immediately hired after Kyle moved into retirement.
Following this season, finishing 1-10 but making a playoff appearance and nine consecutive losses to Lakewood St. Edward, it was time to think about a change of direction for the program.
As stated in the school's Instagram post, they have initiated the hiring process to find a successor for Franzinger.
