STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Significant changes have occurred at Penn State University following the termination of former head coach James Franklin in early October, due to the team's poor start to the season.
Now, one of their top recruits, Chaz Coleman, has entered the transfer portal, according to Hayes Fawcett. With the announcement being made on December 18.
During his freshman year at Penn State, he participated in nine games, recording a total of eight tackles (six of which were solo) and one sack. He had his best performance on September 6 against FIU, where he recorded four tackles and a strip sack.
His playing time decreased as the season went on under interim head coach Terry Smith, as he felt Coleman was more of a pass rusher and didn't quite fit his defensive scheme atleast during a game against Iowa.
After much thought and consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal this coming January to pursue other opportunities. I’d like thank James Franklin and his staff for believing in me and teaching me what it means to believe in myself. https://t.co/zdOJSMfQpY

There is speculation that with Franklin's departure, some have decided to leave; there has been a surge in decommits (25) and a few entering the portal along with Coleman, such as Joey Schlaffer (Tight end), Elliot Washington II (Cornerback), according to On3.
Coleman is ranked #1 according to 247Sports' transfer portal rankings, ahead of former Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby. The big question is, where will he land?
Penn State plays in the Bad Boy Mowers Penn Stripe Bowl on December 27 against Clemson, which finished the season 6-6 and 12th in the Big Ten.
