LOUISVILLE, Ohio - The Louisville City School District is set to search for a new head football coach as Christopher Kappas has stepped down and has decided to pursue his return to the college coaching ranks, as indicated in a press release.

Kappas became the coach of the Leopards in January 2023, succeeding Troy Davis, who was the previous coach.

He put together a record of 11-20 across three seasons, including one playoff appearance this past season against Westerville South, his best season. In his first season, the team was in Division III, and then they moved up to Division II for the last two seasons.

"Today I notified our team and administration at Louisville that I will be stepping down as head football coach to pursue an opportunity coaching at the collegiate level," Kappas said in a prepared statement.

He played football at North Hills High School, located in Pittsburgh, PA, continuing his career at Mount Union in Alliance, OH, and West Liberty University in West Virginia.

His coaching career began as a graduate assistant at Bowling Green University, where he primarily assisted with the defense. He then moved on to Mount Union, where he served as pass game coordinator, special teams coordinator, wide receivers coach, and both offensive and defensive coordinator.

He was hired at Austin Peay, where he served as defensive coordinator before landing at Louisville. He is slated to return to Mount Union as defensive coordinator.

We wish Coach Kappas the best in his next endeavor.
