Sophia Gregory enters the transfer portal from Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — As the transfer portal heats up on its official day, one local player, Sophia Gregory, formally of West Branch, announced her intentions via social media that she will enter the transfer portal after just two seasons at Youngstown State.

After lots of prayer and reflection, I will be entering the transfer portal. I trust God's plan for my future - Sophia Gregory stated on social media.

Gregory was a multi-year All-Ohio at West Branch before committing to the Penguins.

She will leave averaging 10.4 points and 8.3 rebounds, after averaging 27.0 minutes per game. The 6-foot-2 forward played in 63 games, starting 56.

During her freshman year, she was named the Horizon League's Freshman Women's basketball player of the year and was selected the Horizon League's Defensive Player of the Year at the end of this current season.

Youngstown recently finished the season 25-10 (15-5 Horizon League), making it to the Horizon League Championship game, falling to Green Bay 57-49, and a second-round finish in the WNIT Tournament after losing to Marshall 72-46 in the Super 16 round.
