COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a matter of days, the Ohio State Men's basketball program has lost some major Ohio players due to the transfer portal.
On March 29, Pickerington native Devon Royal entered the portal after three seasons as a Buckeye. Now, Colin White (Ottawa-Glandorf) and Gabe Cupps (Centerville) are awaiting to join new teams as they both enter the portal.
White, who has been in the program for the last two seasons, appeared in 48 games while battling a left leg injury that required surgery and mental reps during the process.
On a social media post, White said, "I believe it is the best step for my future and development both on and off the court." He also stated, "I am excited for the next opportunity to continue competing at a high level. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way."
In another move and another Ohio Mr. Basketball winner in 2022, Gabe Cupps, has intended to enter the transfer portal, as stated on social media, according to his agency, Excel Sports.
The savvy point guard played at Indiana for two seasons before coming to Ohio State, playing in 33 games. Wherever he lands, he will have two years of eligibility remaining.
As of press time, an additional Buckeye, Taison Chatman, intends to enter the portal. The 6-4, 190-pound guard also battled through some tough injuries and appeared in only 17 games.
With senior Bruce Thornton leaving, this leaves a big hole at the point guard position for the Buckeyes.
