Malone University names alum Jake Shoup head women's basketball coach

CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone Pioneers are set to welcome new leadership this winter, with Jake Shoup appointed as the new head coach for the women's basketball team, according to the university's athletic director, Tonya Hockman. 

"I am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Malone University," Shoup stated. 

Shoup assumes control of the program from Selana Ickes, who has accepted an assistant role at Eastern Michigan University. She led the team to a 25-7 record and an NCAA Division II Championship bid as the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Regional. 

He spent the last three seasons at Norwayne High School, where he was very successful, leading them to back-to-back OHSAA State Semifinals and a runner-up finish in the 2025 state championship, and a 64-17 record during his tenure. 

He is a 2020 graduate of the University, earning his Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and Teaching.
