COVENTRY TWP, Ohio--Veteran basketball coach Larry Taylor has secured a new position at Coventry, according to Coventry Athletic Director Tim Baugess, "He has been hired but is currently pending board approval."
Taylor is well-known within the coaching community, having dedicated 21 years to Jackson High School (Massillon) from 1984-2005. During his tenure, he achieved a record of 307 wins and 169 losses as the boys' head coach, securing eight Federal League titles, five district championships, and making regional appearances, along with two trips to the state tournament (1994, 2001).
He served five seasons at Massillon from 2011 to 2016, resigning from that position following the conclusion of the 2016 season where he posted a 50-58 record.
Most recently, he held the position of Head Coach for the boys' team at Tuscarawas Central Catholic, having been appointed in June of 2022, where he gained his 400th career coaching victory in 2024.
Taylor will take over a program that was most recently directed by Devon McAfee, who also held positions on the track and football teams.
Coventry boys' basketball competes out of the Metro Athletic Conference, which also includes member schools Cloverleaf, Streetsboro, Field, Norton, Springfield, Ravenna, and Woodridge.
