CLEVELAND, Ohio--As reported by Matt Goul of Cleveland.com, the Lake Erie League has made a decision to dissolve following the conclusion of the current academic year, attributing this action to a decrease in membership.
The league would have been down to five members if they were entering the fall season: Garfield Heights, Maple Heights, Bedford, Warrensville Heights, and Shaw.
LEL administrators voted Monday to disband the league after careful consideration:
The Lake Erie League (LEL) convened today and voted to dissolve the conference due to steady decline in membership that made continued operation unsustainable. This decision was not made lightly, as the LEL has a long and proud history of promoting athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and regional camaraderie amongst its member schools. We honor the legacy of the LEL and remain committed to supporting our student-athletes through strong competition, new partnerships, and continued collaboration across districts
Lorain was also a member of the LEL but has left for the Greater Cleveland Conference once it was approved for this upcoming fall season.
With no word on these ex-members' destination as of press time, this will be interesting moving forward in the coming weeks as high school football is right around the corner.
