MASSILLON, Ohio - On an evening when two top coaches step onto the field at Massillon's Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, with the audience at full capacity, it was destined to be an exceptional game.

In front of a full capacity audience, both teams battled fiercely, resulting in an overtime conclusion where Glenville triumphed over Massillon with a score of 33-27.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle with Massillon coming up short after Glenville forced them into multiple punting situations. They would use most of the clock to score a late-quarter touchdown run from Chris Newell Jr. with 1:14 left to go up 7-0.

In the second quarter, Massillon responded with Manny Patterson throwing a rollout pass to Giorgio Jackson, who caught the ball in the corner of the endzone, tying the game up at seven apiece. Glenville found its rhythm as quarterback Arvell Nelson Jr. connected with Bowling Green commit Pauly Sadler on a downfield pass, covering 55 yards into the endzone, putting them ahead 13-7 after a failed point after.

A minute after Massillon would fumble the ball, and Glenville recovered, which led to a 14-yard touchdown reception to London Hearn that would put them up 19-7 going into halftime. Glenville would lead in penalties and time of possession during the first half.

Opening up the second half, Glenville would retain the ball for at least six minutes to come up empty and give the ball back to set up a score by Massillon to bring the score 19-14 off a 15-yard pass from Patterson to Deontay Malone with 2:10 left in the quarter.

Back-and-Forth Second Half

Massillon would open up the fourth quarter, gaining the lead after a short drive and score by running back Savior Owens. However, a failed two-point conversion left the Tigers with a narrow lead of just one point, 20-19. That score would only last two plays, responding by scoring on a Chase Youngblood to Rommel Phillips on an 81-yard touchdown pass to put the Tarblooders back up 27-20.

The Tigers were not going away as they would score on another pass play from Manny Patterson to Deontay Malone to tie things up at 27 apiece.

After a failed field goal attempt by Glenville that would've given them the win, but sailed wide left, the game would push into overtime.

OVERTIME

The mighty Tigers would get the ball (first possession) of overtime, failing to convert a touchdown, and attempted a field goal that was blocked by the edge rushers of Glenville.

Glenville would need to just score to win the game when Arvell Nelson found an open Joseph Saffold on a slant to give Glenville an opening-week big-game win, 33-27.

Massillon will regroup to play federal league foe Canton Glenoak (0-1) in the second week of action at home. Glenville will travel to Olentangy Liberty (0-1) with a big win.
